Just a quick note to say that I’m now very excitingly represented by Cathy King and Alex Bloch at 42.
The second run of The Ministry of Lesbian Affairs at the Kiln Theatre was an astonishingly wonderful success, and we are ever so proud of what we achieved. A huge thank you to an amazing cast and production team. We are hoping this won’t be the end for this much loved, and full of love show. Stay tuned.
The wheels keep turning though, and I’m currently deep into working on a first draft of a new play. It’s hard work, and the actual line by line writing is awful. So I try and remember the old saying I was told on the Soho Theatre Writers’ Programme about ten years ago, which I had written on a post-it and stuck above my desk: “Don’t get it right, just get it written”. So I persevere!
I’ve also been given the amazing opportunity to revisit a draft of a play that’s been sitting in a drawer for a few years. It feels like it was written by a different person in a different time. The latter of that is certainly true. And I suppose in some ways I am a different writer now. But I’m trying to look at it as a really exciting prospect – what do a few more years of life and aging and the continuing pendulum swing to the right bring to a play about women’s relationships with their bodies?
I’m also starting work on a couple of new musical projects. I love the power of a musical to work on the heart as well as the mind in its efforts to bring people together, perhaps sometimes even in spite of themselves. There’s not a whole lot more I can say about either of the projects, other than I’m very excited!
